The Penn State Employee Health and Wellness Center, located in the Nursing Sciences Building, hours are Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30pm. The Penn State Employee Health and Wellness Center offers convenient walk-in service for minor illnesses and conditions that require short-term treatment. These include but are not limited to:
- abdominal and stomach pain
- allergy symptoms
- colds, coughs, and flu
- eye, ear, nose, and throat infections
- nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
- minor rashes and skin conditions
- sinus infections and sinusitis
- abrasions, sprains, and strains (not associated with a workplace injury)
The center is designed to provide acute care to full- and part-time employees who become ill at work and cannot make an immediate trip to their primary care physician. Services are provided by three nurse practitioners, with a Penn State Health physician on staff two days a week.
What is Not Treated
1. Serious, chronic, or life-threatening ailments and injuries
The Employee Health and Wellness Center is not designed to handle ongoing illnesses or emergency situations. Anyone experiencing chest pain, faintness, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of a medical emergency should call 911 immediately.
2. Work-related injuries
Anyone needing treatment for a work-related injury should go to Penn State’s Occupational Medicine practice in Suite 310 of the Centre Medical Sciences Building at 1850 E. Park Ave. in State College, directly in front of Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Who is Eligible
All employees of the University are eligible for treatment at the center. This includes full- and part-time faculty and staff, wage payroll and technical service employees, and postdoctoral fellows and scholars.
Undergraduate and graduate students should continue to receive care at the Student Health Center through University Health Services.

What to Bring with You
Employees should remember to bring their Penn State id+ card to verify their employment status. They should also bring their medical insurance card(s), regardless of whether they are covered by Penn State’s medical plan.
Location and Parking
The center is located at 109 Nursing Sciences Building on Penn State’s University Park campus. The street address is 299 E. College Ave., State College.
With a convenient central campus location, the center is within walking distance for most employees. For those who choose to drive, public parking is available on College Avenue and in the McAllister and Pugh Street parking decks.
CATA’s Blue Loop and the Penn State’s Campus Shuttle also provide no-fare transit service to and from the Penn State Employee Health and Wellness Center via stops along College Avenue near Atherton Hall and the Allen Street gates.
As a facility operated by Penn State Medical Group, part of Penn State Health, the center uses the same fee structure. Payment is based on medical insurance coverage as follows:
- PPO Plan—Employees enrolled in this plan have the co-pay waived.
- PPO Savings—Employees enrolled in this plan will receive a bill once the claim for their visit is processed.
- Other Insurance—Employees with insurance coverage other than Penn State’s will be charged based on the provisions of their plan.
- No Insurance Coverage—Employees with no insurance coverage should speak with staff at the center to discuss payment arrangements.
If a patient needs other services following a visit, such as lab work or X-rays, additional expenses may apply, based on the provisions of their health plan.
