Job Title Definition

Police Officers protect life and property by maintaining visibility in the community; patrol to proactively seek out and respond to violations of rules and laws; conduct investigations; assist with development of plans for specialty areas within law enforcement; respond to requests for assistance; ensure the safety and security of the campus community; gain the trust of the public; must be accountable for their actions as well as set an example for others.

Job Duties

  • Patrol campus and surrounding area utilizing various vehicles or on foot
  • Proactively seek out and respond to violations of laws and enforce PA crime codes
  • Perform building checks and assist with pedestrian and traffic management at special events
  • Respond to requests for law enforcement assistance, radio calls, fires, medical emergencies, and other hazardous situations
  • Traffic enforcement; enforce the provisions of the PA Motor Vehicle Code and University regulations regarding motor vehicle use on campus
  • Conduct preliminary and follow up investigations; evaluate the physical scene of a crime and determine how to process; document and collect physical evidence
  • Utilize department report writing tools and techniques to write reports
  • Make arrests; determine when an arrest can and should be made; apply verbal, armed, or unarmed skills to make arrest and or overcome resistance to a lawful arrest
  • Attend and participate in required department and or mandated training, including emergency preparedness drills
  • Assist in developing and or delivering training as needed
  • Testify in criminal or administrative proceedings
  • Enforce parking regulations
  • Develop, promote, and or deliver community education/crime prevention programming

Minimum Education and Experience

High School Graduate or equivalent; Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) Act 120 Certification is required.

0 to 1 year of relevant experience. 

Other Requirements

Driver's License; U.S. citizenship; ability to pass a criminal background investigation, motor vehicle records check, and credit history check.
