Job Title Definition:
The Data Analyst conducts studies, gathers and analyzes data from various databases and sources, develops reports, summaries, recommendations, and visual representations, performs statistical programming, develops and/or maintains databases and provides consultation and technical assistance to a wide variety of clients; advises and assists clients in determining the appropriate analytical methodology to meet their needs and objectives, uses various statistical packages, summarizes and interprets statistical results and designs and implements process improvements. Duties are performed at various levels within the defined title.

Typical Work Duties
  • Collect, compile and analyze data from various databases and perform statistical analyses
  • Draft and prepare standard and/or ad hoc reports
  • Meet with clients to determine their information and research needs
  • Analyze client requests and provide guidance and technical assistance on obtaining accurate information from the University’s data warehouse
  • Provide training on data analysis, data management and related topics
  • May develop and/or maintain and enhance existing databases and reports
  • May develop and/or maintain various web pages as required

  • Manage the design, collection, retrieval and analysis of critical forecasting and performance data
  • Act as internal consultant to business units to provide assistance regarding the development of analytical models and unit-based decision support systems (e.g., workload, projection vs. goal, etc.)
  • Perform statistical programming utilizing a variety of statistical software packages to summarize data and create reports and/or visual presentations
  • May offer advice and counsel clients in determining the appropriate analytical methodology to meet their needs and achieve their objectives
  • May conduct training sessions on the selection and use of various statistical packages, and interpreting and summarizing statistical results
