Job Title Definition:
A Director of Athletics administers the overall athletic program of an educational institution; responsibilities include planning, organizing, monitoring and coordinating a variety of administrative tasks (e.g., personnel and fiscal operations, budgeting, public relations, monitoring and supervising the administration of the University's athletic program) to insure compliance with NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations; monitors the Department's administration and/or support activities to insure compliance with all State, University and Department policies and procedures; serves as the representative/liaison at meetings with Admissions, Financial Aid, University Executives, at athletic competitions or such other events requiring the attendance of the chief executive of the Department of Athletics in the supervision of all department staff and in long and short range planning of Department goals and objectives; requires thorough knowledge of University, Conference and NCAA athletic program policies, rules, and regulations, thorough knowledge of ability to establish and maintain effective communications and working relationships with administrative officials, coaches, athletes, faculty, students, members of the media, booster organizations and the general public; responsibilities will vary but may include: analysis; strategic planning; program creation and implementation; financial management; hiring, evaluating and holding employees accountable; safety and security; contract negotiations; compliance with set standards; oversee and evaluate program equity to ensure Title IX compliance; supervision of intramural/recreational/club sports; and fundraising. Duties are performed at various levels within the defined title.
