- Responsibilities of this specialty include all aspects of the operational components of sports programs in intercollegiate athletics. These functions will include the systematic management of all operational needs associated with intercollegiate athletics sports programs. Responsibilities will vary but may include: hiring, evaluating and supervising personnel; managing business relationships and/or processes; working with internal and external constituencies; managing and administering budgets; complying with NCAA, Conference and Institutional rules and regulations; interpreting legislation; managing and promoting events; coordinating facilities; interacting with the media; developing schedules and practices; reserving travel and securing hotels; assisting with recruiting student-athletes and staff; consulting with on and off-campus colleagues; representing the department on committees and at various institutional, conference and national events; fundraising; and ensuring program equity and Title IX compliance.
- Job Title Definition:
- A Director of Operations coordinates all operations for a specific athletic program at an educational institution; responsibilities include manage program budget as it relates to summer camps, video exchange, recruiting, equipment, and team travel; coordinate practice and game times; plan and coordinate all aspects of team travel; develop itineraries; coordinate transportation, hotel arrangements, meals, practice times and sites, to meet NCAA rules and regulations; serve as a liaison to athletic administration, compliance, facilities, training staff, equipment manager, communications, marketing, and other organizations; organize all aspects of recruiting visits, including facility scheduling, host coordination, hotel accommodations, travel and flight arrangements, transportation, and campus meetings; plans, organizes and coordinates all logistics of the summer camp program; promote program by creating and distributing brochures; manages the budget to ensure expenses are within budget; organizes registration; oversees the staff hiring, and establishes daily camp schedule; hire, supervise, and evaluate team manager and student intern program; may manage and supervise video production; communicate with Alumnae and Donors; coordinate team community service activities. Duties are performed at various levels within the defined title.
