WorkLion launches across the Commonwealth

WorkLion, the University’s new human resources portal, including the new HR and payroll system, Workday, launched on Sunday, Dec. 10. These technologies will be utilized by faculty, staff, technical service employees, student employees, and graduate assistants and fellows across Penn State’s colleges, campuses and administrative units.

Starting today, faculty, staff, technical service employees, student employees, and graduate assistants and fellows are encouraged to log in and validate key data elements such as direct deposit account, benefit elections, legal name, and more. Users can review a checklist of these items on the WorkLion support website.

In anticipation of the launch, more than 10,000 Penn State employees, graduate assistants and fellows attended in-person or virtual training to prepare for WorkLion. As users become familiar with these new tools, additional assistance and information will be available in multiple formats.

In the WorkLion portal, users can search the knowledge base for answers to their HR or payroll questions or to view step-by-step instructions for the use of Workday. Via the portal, users also can submit an inquiry that is routed directly to the HR Services team. There also is an option to call HR Services at 814-865-1473. For questions specifically related to time worked or time off, employees are encouraged to speak directly to their manager or timekeeper. Training materials — including links to courses and demo videos — will continue to be available on the training section of the WorkLion support website.

The adoption of these technologies is the culmination of a multi-year transformation that has focused on creating a human resources function that operates more efficiently and effectively. In a message to system users, Executive Vice President and Provost Nicholas Jones and Senior Vice President David Gray stated that they are “looking forward to the changes that these new technologies bring to the University,” such as “employee access to real-time, personalized information, streamlined processes, and enhanced capabilities to make data-driven decisions.”

In the coming months, teams in Penn State Human Resources and the Enterprise Project Management Office will continue to fine-tune the technologies and processes they support.
