Functions may include specialized architectural, engineering, site, and construction services; energy engineering; building code analysis; project scheduling, estimating, and management; and support of operations and maintenance.
Job Title Definition:
Landscape Architects provide support for, participate in, or lead the planning and design processes for all physical development at the University; includes master planning, site selection studies, as well as site and building planning and design of new and renovated facilities in all University locations; leads or participates in the development of in-house landscape architecture designs for projects of varying scope; reviews landscape architecture designs prepared by outside consultants; formulates and enforces design standards; leads or participates in feasibility studies for future projects; leads or assists in the preparation of graphic presentations for a variety of internal or external customers including: administrative and academic leadership, faculty, staff, students and the community at large; works with community representatives on zoning and other issues of common interest. Duties are performed at various levels within the defined title.

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Landscape Architecture or related discipline

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Certifications, Registrations or Licensure:
Professional license as a Registered Landscape Architect required; Valid PA Driver’s License and ability to operate a motor vehicle may be required

Typical Work Duties
  • Develop plans and designs for in-house projects

  • Participate in the consultant selection process for projects that do not require Board of Trustees selection approval

Typical Work Duties
  • Guide the design process and collaborate with architects and building users to establish design direction for all University projects
  • Approve architectural concept, massing, materials and general detailing
  • Establish and enforce standards of design quality to ensure adherence to the long-term “legacy” interest of the University
  • Consider the balance of functional, aesthetic, environmentally sustainable and fiscally responsible design
  • Manage the Architect/Engineer selection process for major building projects; serve as point of contact with design consultants; facilitate screening meetings
  • Assist with the selection process for minor projects
