The unit consists of various offices working synergistically in two major functional areas, the Office of University Development and the Penn State Alumni Association. In concert with the colleges, campuses, and other units of the University, the Division of Development and Alumni Relations has responsibility for advancing the University’s overall mission of teaching, research, and outreach to alumni, parents, friends, corporations and foundations. This is done by informing alumni and other constituents about Penn State and involving them in the life of the University through effective communications, quality programs and services. In doing so, we strive to gain their support and encourage them to join in shaping Penn State’s future through fundraising campaigns, enhancing honors education, enriching the student experience, fostering discovery and creativity, sustaining a tradition of quality, and building faculty strength and capacity. The division’s mandate is to generate among key constituencies the attitudinal, financial, and behavioral support needed to realize the University’s goals and objectives.
Job Title Definition:
The OUD Manager oversees the strategic and operational management of activities related to a specified management area as it impacts the performance of an organization; management areas include, but are not limited to, units such as Hershey Medical Center, Major Gifts, Annual Giving, Office of Donor Relations and Special Events, Office of Gift Planning, Donor Services, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Research and Prospect Development, Leadership Gifts, and Commonwealth Campuses; proactively leads employees and supports diversity through hiring, retention, and promotional activities; ensure established standards of continuous quality improvement are met; and provide leadership for outstanding customer service at all levels of the organization; defines goals for future organizational performance and decides on the tasks and use of resources needed to attain them; communicate goals to employees throughout the unit or organization; and uses influence to motivate employees to achieve organizational goals; ensures operational and strategic direction and accountability; link unit operations to strategic objectives; exercise authority for unit policy and procedures and operational decisions for departments; influence organizational and community relations to develop and achieve strategic goals and manage customer relations. Duties are performed at various levels within the defined title.
