Job Title Definition:
Police Manager oversee the overall operation, management, and administration of University law enforcement and safety services; supervises staff and/or a major program area; supervises assigned staff; evaluates needs; develops strategies; or organizes, implements and maintains effective programs for public safety and security initiatives; leads employees and provides professional expertise through coaching, mentoring, and the support of diversity; ensures that established standards of continuous quality improvement are met and provides leadership for outstanding customer service at all levels of the organization; define goals and assess resources needed to attain them; implements policies and procedures; communicates regularly with other work units as well as community police and emergency responders to ensure good community relations and communications. Duties are performed at various levels within the defined title.

Typical Work Duties
  • Act as Station Supervisor or Shift Supervisor at assigned location
  • Supervise assigned staff both sworn and non-sworn. 
  • Assist higher level Police Managers with coordinating work and overseeing the daily operations of the police force; responsibilities include: performance evaluations, investigations, case management, training, disciplinary process, authorize vacation requests and review employee timecards, interpreting and communicating laws and policies, assuring staff comply with established laws and policies
  • Represent department on appropriate committees and attend meetings
  • Assist with the interpretation of laws and criminal procedure
  • Supervise the parking program, the property inventory and the lost and found program where required
