This category also encompasses operations positions involved with the presentation, management, and/or interpretation of permanent collections and/or exhibitions of objects in museums, galleries, or other venues; and positions involved with design fabrication or the presentation and/or production of the performing arts.
Job Title Definition:
The Arts Management positions coordinate and supervise activities including directing specific components of the overall operation of a center, museum or arts organization; provide artistic direction and program development for presentations, exhibitions and educational activities; and support fundraising and advisory board efforts; supervise facilities management and maintenance, events management, general business operations, marketing, staff management, and financial operations, of a University Arts organization; coordinate fundraising efforts and development of advisory boards/committees; lead policy development, financial analysis, budgeting, long- & short-term strategic planning, contract negotiations, resources and audience development in support of unit operations. Duties are performed at various levels within the defined category.

  • Coordinate activities that support operational and programming strategies, educational goals and objectives
  • Assist in the day-to-day operations by coordinating projects, budgets, staff, events planning and promotion, calendar, facilities, and maintenance
  • Develop and maintain relationships within the University, local schools, and community through personal contact and response to requests
  • Assist in the development and implementation of program plans that reflect the cultural, aesthetic and educational mandates of the organization’s mission
  • May assist with marketing and publicity of programs and/or events
  • May hire, supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff

  • Assist in the direction of the overall operation of assigned units of the center or museum by managing an area such as exhibition, production, audience services, ticketing services, marketing, and/or finance
  • Direct day-to-day operations, by managing projects, budgets, staff, events planning and promotion, and the calendar, facilities, and maintenance
  • Initiate and maintain relationships within the University and community; provide artistic leadership to the community through service on community and campus boards
  • Review the work of others, and provide broad guidelines for staff; projects, audience development, operations and programming strategies
  • Establish procedures to accommodate University and student organization presenters, community arts organizations and non-University promoters
  • Assist with formulation of strategic plans for policy development, budgeting of funds, strategic planning, programming, resource and audience development
  • Review, amend, and approve aspects of contracts related to areas of oversight; negotiate as required
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of long-range goals and objectives related to areas of oversight
