Job Title Definition:
The Extension Assistant assists with recruiting, training, and supervision efforts of volunteer leaders for various extension programs; works with youth and/or adult groups in conjunction with identified extension activities including presentations, communications, meetings, and reports. Duties are performed at various levels within the defined title.

Typical Work Duties
  • Assist in identifying, recruiting, and helping to orient volunteers/volunteer leaders
  • Assist in identifying community resources that can support extension programs
  • Teach prepared and established curriculum to a variety of audiences
  • Arrange for skills training for volunteer leaders, as necessary
  • Prepare and submit necessary records and reports, as requested
  • Assist extension staff in encouraging volunteers to become participants in other extension programs
  • Participate in in-service training; attend staff meetings and other extension activities, as requested

  • Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers/volunteer leaders for extension programs
  • Encourage enrollment in extension activities through various communication vehicles such as newsletters and public information
  • May work with and supervise youth and adult groups in area of specialization; may include extension activities, tours, group meetings, etc.
  • Assist with the forming, organizing, and functioning of extension groups
  • May supervise a variety of area-specific functions including coordinating facility requirements, advising on projects and displays, judging events, creating communications
  • Assist volunteers/members in carrying out projects; make suggestions for improvements; conduct meetings
  • Assist volunteers/members and other staff with maintenance of records necessary for the coordination of programs
  • Attend in-service training sessions and workshops as requested
