The Research Data Analyst gathers and analyzes data from various databases and sources, performing statistical and/or mathematical programming, developing reports and visual representations, developing and/or maintaining databases, and providing consultation, technical assistance, and coordination for a wide variety of clinical/biomedical investigators or other research faculty; advises and assists investigators in determining the appropriate statistical methodology to meet their study needs and objectives; uses various statistical and mathematical software packages to summarize and interpret statistical results; and designs, implements, and coordinates study activities and process improvements. Duties are performed at various levels within the defined title.

Typical Work Duties
  • Collaborate with research coordinators, statisticians, clinical/biomedical investigators and other research faculty to implement a statistical analysis plan
  • Develop, write, execute, test, debug, implement, modify and support new or existing statistical or mathematical software programs in support of research projects
  • Write documentation
  • Manage, reformat, enter, edit, merge and maintain data in preparation for analysis
  • Conduct validation checks
  • Query reports for problematic data (erroneous or illogical data values); send to supervising faculty, research coordinators and clinical/biomedical investigators for resolution
  • Transfer data among different formats for analysis purposes
  • Analyze data using statistical or mathematical software to generate descriptive statistics and develop statistical models and graphics
  • Review statistical output for consistency and quality
  • Prepare tables and quality graphics of statistical results for inclusion in interim and final reports, presentations, abstracts, manuscript submissions and grant applications
  • Communicate statistical results to supervising faculty or staff
  • Prepare and assemble data sets, corresponding forms and other materials for public use as specified according to governmental policy regulations
