JOB TITLE DEFINITION: 

Purchasing Support positions process inventory requests and maintains physical inventories; assists in the procurement of goods and services; provides support to customers and communicates with vendors to gather information and solve problems; completes financial transactions; reports and compiles product information; transfers, tags and ships inventory items.

SAMPLE WORK ACTIVITIES: 

  • Make purchases in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Contribute to planning and logistics; ensure accuracy of all products ordered
  • Review, prepare, verify, and approve transactions within established dollar limits and guidelines
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure materials are available for project completion
  • Inspect materials for quality specifications
  • Assist in periodic physical inventory; complete and maintain reports on inventory items
  • Research discrepancies and assist with the resolution process
  • Correspond with vendors and customers to solve problems, share information, and ensure accurate payment 
  • Authorize the return of items not meeting appropriate specifications
  • Research and purchase materials and substitutes
  • Serve as a liaison with vendors, manufactures and suppliers; monitor overall performance
  • Maintain accurate records for projects
