Pharmacy Technician - Part Time

JOB TITLE DEFINITION: 

Pharmacy Technicians dispense prescriptions and over the counter medication under the supervision of a Pharmacist.

SAMPLE WORK ACTIVITIES: 

• Process and fill prescriptions; input required information into computer system; generate label
• Ensure proper medication is dispensed; use counting machines, trays, spatulas, etc. for final inspection by Pharmacist
• Respond to patient inquiries; review patient file to verify information such as identification number, known allergies, date of birth, patient eligibility status, etc.
• Operate robotic dispensing system by adding medications, vials and labels; calibrate and set the flow rates; clean and sanitize the machine as required
• Retrieve and process prescriptions from the voice response and web-based prescription refill system
• Receive shipments of medications and supplies; verify quantities and store items in stockroom or pharmacy; report discrepancies
• Check medications for expiration dates; remove items near expiration date and handle according to established practices; maintain log of disposed medications
• Process orders from all University campus locations and various University departments; generate billing statement and mail medications; answer inquiries regarding these orders
• Process third party insurance claims; operate cash register; enter charges to student accounts

REQUIREMENTS: May require Pharmacy Technician Certification
