IT Applications Specialist - Part Time

JOB TITLE DEFINITION:  

IT Applications positions cover the design, development, installation, implementation, modification, and support of new or existing applications software; analyze functional and systems requirements; develop application and database design; write code, validate data acquisition and output media/formats; design user interfaces; develop and maintain websites, interactive applications, simulations, video/audio streaming; work with users to test, debug, and troubleshoot applications, assuring software and systems quality and functionality; integrate hardware and software components; write and maintain program documentation; evaluate new and improved software applications and programming technologies; ensure the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices. 

SAMPLE WORK ACTIVITIES:  

  • Design, develop, test, debug, install, implement, modify, and/or support new or existing applications software  
  • Work with users to analyze their requirements; participate in project planning efforts 
  • Provide end user consultation, functional support, training, documentation, and guidance 
  • Investigate application and website issues; perform root cause analysis, take corrective actions 
  • Assist in the implementation of “workarounds” when system issues affect operations 
  • Monitor applications and websites for quality standards; ensure University standards, accessibility requirements, coding practices, and security are being adhered to 
  • Develop application and website components, features, modules, and templates 
  • Configure and integrate applications with central authentication and other services as required 
  • Prepare and execute test plans; follow test cases and established procedures for testing  
  • Prepare recovery procedures, user operations manuals, and other documentation 
  • May develop, produce, and optimize customized reports in response to user requirements  
  • May design and implement new features and/or integrations for existing software 
  • May design and implement database structures 
  • May establish and maintain software engineering and/or development best practices
