JOB TITLE DEFINITION:  

Academic Advisers deliver professional evaluation and assistance to students by providing information based on student ability, interest, and academic performance; provide guidance in academic advising to assigned students, make professional referrals, maintain and ensure confidentiality of records; act as a guide in course selection and scheduling; assist in resolving academic problems;  identify and monitor academic progress.  

SAMPLE WORK ACTIVITIES:  

• Provide academic advising to assigned students; assess other needs and make professional referrals; maintain and ensure confidentiality of student records  
• Guide students in course selection and scheduling; help students to understand degree requirements; assist in resolving academic problems; identify and monitor academic progress 
• Interpret University policies and procedures and curriculum to students, faculty, staff, and administration 
• Assist in the recruitment and retention of undergraduate students through the coordination of the First-Year Testing, Consulting and Advising Program (FTCAP) 
• Maintain confidentiality of student records 
• May contribute to the facilitation and development of academic advising programs 
• May coordinate advising training 
• May evaluate advising services; propose process improvement opportunities
