Breastfeeding Support Program

Breastfeeding can be more challenging after mothers return to work or school. Research shows that when mothers are provided with essential services to support breastfeeding and pumping, they can achieve their goals. The Breastfeeding Support Program at Penn State is here to help you every step of the way!

The Affordable Care Act brings changes in insurance coverage of breastfeeding supplies, beginning January 2013. Aetna coverage will include breast pumps without cost sharing.

The Breastfeeding Support Program offers support and services to Penn State faculty, staff, students and their spouses. 

Breastfeeding Classes - Two classes are offered to the Penn State community covering general breastfeeding information as well as returning to work.

Lactation Consultant ServicesInternational Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) available to help with any breastfeeding/pumping problems. 

Support Group - Meetings held monthly for moms combining work/student life and breastfeeding/pumping at two University Park locations.

Peer Mentoring Program - New moms are paired with experienced working/breastfeeding moms for guidance and support.

Lactation Stations - Private rooms equipped with hospital-grade breast pumps are available for breastfeeding and pumping milk at the University Park campus, Penn State Abington, Schuylkill, Erie, Harrisburg, and Hazleton. Rooms are also available at Fayette, Altoona, and Worthington Scranton for use with your own pump (not equipped with hospital-grade pumps).

Retail Sales - Pump kits to use with the Lactation Station Pumps are available for purchase by the Penn State community at the University Park Campus.

Lending Library - Our library includes a variety of resources related to breastfeeding and parenting.
