University Health Services to offer flu vaccine to University employees

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The University Health Services (UHS) Pharmacy at the University Park campus is partnering with Penn State Human Resources to offer flu vaccines to employees and their dependents over age 18 who are covered under the University-sponsored health insurance.

To schedule an appointment for a flu vaccine, call the UHS Pharmacy at 814-865-4UHS (4847), and select option 1.

The UHS Pharmacy is located in the Student Health Center on the University Park campus next to the Eisenhower Parking Garage.

In addition, as previously announced, for employees and their dependents who have one of the Highmark health care plans, the flu vaccine is covered 100% with no co-pay or deductible, and can be obtained at most in-network pharmacies, as well as at in-network primary care physician offices. For more information, visit the Highmark website.

Penn State Human Resources recommends the following options for those who are not covered by the University’s Highmark insurance plans and are seeking a flu vaccination this fall. These locations are government-based, and a parent or guardian must be present with individuals under the age of 18 to receive the flu vaccine.

Flu season peaks in early December so now is the perfect time to obtain a flu shot. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against the influenza virus infection. That’s why it’s best to get vaccinated now — before influenza starts to spread in the community.
