JOB TITLE DEFINITION:
Occupational Safety/Environmental Health Specialist positions implement and oversee programs that protect the health and safety of the University community; develop, conduct, and maintain federal-and-state-mandated training programs; maintain records for compliance, respond to requests of service to determine if the conditions of the workplace are unsafe; resolve and respond to emergencies to determine impact on University; perform specialized waste pick-up, transportation, and storage activities to protect University community that helps promote occupational and environmental health and safety programs.
SAMPLE WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Provide advice and guidance on all phases of safety, environmental and health issues
- Develop, present, and/or facilitate training programs
- Coordinate day-to-day oversight of one or more occupational safety/environmental health programs or activities
- Diagnose and resolve non-routine issues and employee concerns
- Research and gather background information; prepare reports, analyses, and make recommendations on safety, environmental and health issues
- Provide guidance and advice on all phases of safety, environmental health, and issues
- Communicate and translate technical information to non-technical end users; maintain communication and monitor incident through resolution
- Assist in preparing proposals in support of safety programs, strategies, or procedures within the organizational unit
- Assist with project teams in the development and implementation of safety, environmental and health policies, programs, or changes that may impact the unit
- Train University community on new health and safety programs
