JOB TITLE DEFINITION:
Perform any combination mail center tasks, such as receive, sort, process, and deliver letters and parcels. Operate myriad mailing machines and equipment. Drive mail truck.
SAMPLE WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Load, unload, sort, scan, bundle, wrap, package, label, process, pick-up and or deliver incoming and outgoing mail
- Operate postage scales, bar code scanners, package tracking systems, shrink wrap, tying, addressing, bulk rate, folding, inserting, and metering machines. Perform routine preventive maintenance and adjustments
- Determine mail charges; log dollar and quantity balances, budget, fund, and project numbers; affix postage and labeling; prepare billings
- Handle, sort, and process nixie mail; prepare and process lost mail tracing forms
- May drive mail trucks on prescribed campus mail routes according to pre-determined building arrival time schedule; deliver mail, supplies, proofs, packages, etc.; pick up and sort outgoing mail; maintain communication with other mail truck drivers; exchange interdepartmental mail
- Make pickup and deliveries to the United States Post Office and other mail services; assist loading metered mail onto mail trucks
- Assist handling stock; unload incoming freight including envelopes, printed materials, and other stock, etc.; package, lift, remove and move supplies, materials, and equipment; use carts, dollies, or hand-powered forklift as needed; conduct inventory as directed
- Maintain interior of vehicle in a clean and orderly fashion. Report to supervisor vehicle conditions requiring repair
- Provide customer service; answer questions pertaining to mailing issues
- Report any unusual circumstances concerning incoming/outgoing mail and mail delivery
- Maintain work area in a neat, orderly, and safe condition
