Network Field Technician - Part Time

JOB TITLE DEFINITION: 

Network Field Technicians are responsible for the installation of voice, data, and network infrastructure and/or components to meet design specifications; participate with installation support, service, major moves, and additions/changes; diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve problems. 

SAMPLE WORK ACTIVITIES: 

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, relocate, and replace network, CATV, and telecommunications equipment and hardware, such as fiber optic data cables, coaxial cables, telephones, phone lines, wireless access points, transmitters, receivers, routers, firewall equipment, switches, media converters, power distribution units, and uninterruptable power supplies; perform minor repairs, such as replacing hardware sub-components
  • Pull, terminate, and label cables; test cables and components for connection strength and/or to isolate the source of malfunctions; interpret test readings and trouble reports to determine equipment repair needs
  • Communicate with central office and/or customer to receive instructions, report equipment status, or locate and correct malfunctions on location
  • Respond to requests for assistance regarding equipment or service issues; perform routine diagnosis to isolate hardware issues and/or equipment failure; request support from central office or appropriate vendor when on-site procedures have failed to solve problems; implement emergency procedures to ensure effective restoration of systems during outages
  • Update design drawings or work orders to reflect minor changes and proper circuit ID/IP assignments; log differences in circuit and cable colors
  • Install predetermined configurations to equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance, such as cleaning switches, replacing contact points, testing uninterruptible power supplies, etc., as required
