Leader Curriculum

The overall goal of the BUILD @ Penn State program is to create understanding and build empathy related to diversity so that we can ensure that all Penn State community members feel welcomed, valued, and included. We have designed a leadership focused learning path to help you identify and learn the skills needed to engage in meaningful dialogues, encourage inclusivity, and foster respectful workplaces, because in addition to making sure work expectations are successfully met, you are also responsible for advancing the University's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) goals.

The BUILD for Managers track: Adopting a New Leadership Mindset to Drive DEIB

90 Minutes

This track focuses specifically on helping those with management responsibilities to lead diverse teams successfully. It provides strategies for encouraging inclusivity in teams and fostering respectful workplaces, specifically it will help you:

  • Develop the ability to apply diversity concepts to everyday work and engagement with team members.
  • Extend your personal strengths and promote areas for further growth to increase knowledge and skill for you, as well as for your team members.
  • Lead and advance DEIB efforts in your unit, department, and at the university more broadly.

To explore additional learning and development opportunities for managers, Penn State Human Resources offers a Leadership Foundations curriculum program.
