Breastfeeding Classes

The Breastfeeding Support Program at Penn State offers two breastfeeding classes monthly. The classes are generally offered one following the other so that both can be taken together if preferred. For specific class dates/times or to register for a class, please visit the Learning Resource Network. There is a nominal fee for each class. Spouses/partners are welcome and encouraged to attend with registered participants free of charge.

Basics of Breastfeeding

The Basics class covers information needed to prepare for breastfeeding and through the early weeks. Topics include baby's first feeding, breastfeeding management and establishing milk supply, positioning and latch, how to tell if baby is getting enough milk, and normal newborn behavior. Recommended as a prenatal class for first time parents or as a refresher for those who may have had difficulty breastfeeding in the past.

Working and Breastfeeding

This class covers information needed for combining work/student life and breastfeeding. Topics include introduction of a bottle, milk expression and storage, planning your initial return to work/class, and general tips. This class is best taken prenatally but can also be taken after baby is born.
