Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)
ERGs are voluntary, employee-led groups that are open to all. They help support the recruitment, engagement, and retention of employees by providing a safe and empowering space for engagement with colleagues of common identities, backgrounds, or interests. ERGs are created and led by employees who share common identities, backgrounds, or interests. Most often, they are formed based on common traits, interests, concerns or preferences like age, ethnicity, gender, lifestyle, physical ability, race, sexual orientation, or veteran status. Allies are also invited to join the ERG to support their colleagues. ERGs define their own mission and objectives aligned with University values, and they create connections with local communities, providing employees meaningful opportunities to give back to others.
ERGs not only help people pursue their personal and professional goals but can also shape organizational culture and contribute to the success and advancement of the University. In a Penn State ERG, employees will find a safe and empowering space where they can bring their whole selves to the table and find support for ideas and solutions shaped by a multitude of perspectives. ERGs make the workplace better for everyone through increasing connections and meaning at work, helping develop innovative solutions for existing and new challenges, and fostering inclusion and belonging for all.
