Police Dispatcher - Part Time

JOB TITLE DEFINITION:   

Receive emergency and non-emergency calls; monitor alarms and surveillance cameras; notify/dispatch responders; assist with investigations; register, sign out, and or store weapons, bicycles, keys, police equipment, and lost and found items; log data, make notifications, and prepare reports. 

SAMPLE WORK ACTIVITIES:  

  • Receive, retrieve, log, and or monitor information from alarms, surveillance cameras, emergency calls, complaints, assistance requests etc.; determine location and nature of problem/incident; relay safety instructions and evacuation notices to those in need of immediate assistance; notify appropriate emergency responders and personnel; dispatch officers and coordinate police response; maintain safety and security communication checks 
  • Assist with investigations; conduct background and other checks using state, federal, and University databases; record fingerprint card information; retrieve surveillance camera images; determine University affiliations; identify vehicle owners; coordinate vehicle towing 
  • Alert officers when off-campus incidents may require University Police assistance 
  • Answer Parking Office, Environmental Health and Safety, and University Escort Service calls 
  • Log calls, radio transmissions, other communications, and data; detail information received and actions taken; prepare and send daily press log; record inoperable fire alarms 
  • Register bicycles and student weapons; notify supervisor if identity, mental capacity, and sobriety of weapon owner seeking weapon retrieval is in question 
  • Prepare daily campus building lock/unlock list; as requested or required, access and override lock/unlock computer system; monitor residence hall card access system during breaks; access and obtain ID card database activity logs; sign out keys for residence hall students 
  • Sign out equipment to University Police and other authorized University personnel; report malfunctions and arrange for repair; log information associated with these actions 
  • Receive, identify, log, store, and make proper disposition of lost and found items 
  • Notify Office of Physical Plant on building conditions needing attention 
  • Prepare road condition and weather alert reports; request anti-skid crews as necessary; gather information for University closing and weather delay determinations 
  • Operate Mobile Command Unit and Centre County 911 Center alternate back-up system
