Job Title Definition:
Residential Education Specialist manages and coordinates the delivery of academic, educational, recreational, cultural, residential, social, and other cocurricular programs; hires, trains, supervises and evaluates staff and advises/counsels students and student organizations in the implementation and delivery of programs, events, activities and services; has direct or indirect responsibility for the development of strategic plans, logistics, workshops, assessments, marketing, web presence and risk management protocols; develops and/or supports goals and objectives, policies and procedures, as well as grant/funding requests, and provides budget oversight; oversees a functional unit(s) and acts as a liaison and establishes support networks within the University and community, including corporations, government entities, and international/domestic universities. Duties are performed at various levels within the defined title.

  • Provide personal counseling, crisis intervention and conflict mediation to students on a 24-hour as-needed basis; provide support and guidance for students on a variety of issues including roommate conflicts, personal
    threats/intimidation, alcohol or drug use/abuse, sexual assault, academic adjustment personal development and peer interactions; crisis intervention may include threat assessment, harassment, personal assault, sexual assault, serious personal injuries or illness, student death, fire or other safety emergency, and property damage
  • Administer the student code of conduct to include hearing judicial cases
  • Make referrals to University and community agencies such as Counseling and Psychological Services, Office of Student and Family Services, and CAN HELP
  • Organize, develop, implement, and administer social, educational, and service-learning programs/activities
  • Plan and create student orientation fall/spring for campus population, recruiting events, and housing and or transfer programs
