JOB TITLE DEFINITION:
The Student/Academic Services Specialist plans and implements various programs focused on assisting students in successfully integrating into the University environment including academic and co-curricular activities; advises and counsels students and student organizations; provides training programs, workshops, and presentations related to engagement and development opportunities; prepares communication materials and website updates to inform and market unit capabilities and offerings to other organizations. Note: positions that directly support the Admissions Process should use Part-Time Admissions Support.
SAMPLE WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of student-focused programs and services including leadership training, orientation, student activities, and residence life programming
- Develop and present training, workshops, and informational programs for prospective and current students
- Facilitate the orientation of incoming students to the University; provide new students with an introduction to the campus, resources, and engagement opportunities
- Guide students to events/social gatherings; lead small group discussions and present information to new students related to successful transition
- Provide prospective students and their families with tours of the campus, communicate information that promotes the resources, amenities, and benefits Penn State has to offer
- Provide guidance in either individual or group settings related to career plans and development opportunities, undergraduate research opportunities, and academic enhancement opportunities
- Communicate the importance and impact of student engagement with current and future students, visiting parents, faculty, staff, and community members; provide resources and generate marketing content to help connect students with engagement opportunities
- Serve as a liaison with other offices to provide advice and guidance regarding student services
- May serve as liaison and provide support and resources for global programming and the support and advocacy for international students
- May lead or serve on committees related to diversity, equity, inclusion, retention, strategic planning, and student success
- May conduct assessments and evaluations; analyze programs and operations
